On 2006-02-04 at about 13:20 in West L.A. going south on Barrington about 100 ft north of the intersection with La Grange, a collision occurred between Jose (in front), James (middle) and Cheryl (in back). Larry was behind Cheryl and didn't hit anyone. Traffic speed was about 25 MPH. An unidentified car stopped suddenly in front of Jose, who stopped quickly; James stopped quicker, and successfully, not hitting Jose. Then a moment later, Cheryl hit James pushing his car into Jose's car. (At that location there is only 1 lane each way plus parking.) Claim number L 132 006 013 61 D Suggested body shop with a contract with Amica: Marina Auto Body 4059 Redwood Ave (between Washington and Ida) 310 822 6615 The Amica person asked that I file a police report. I went to LAPD West LA division, but they declined to take the report, since there was no bodily injury and no hit and run. On 2006-02-05, DMV form SR-1 was sent in, and photos were taken of the car. -------- 2006-02-06: Visited Brown's Body Shop; estimate: $4300. Marina Auto Body (AMICA contract shop; Brent Quon): estimate $3000 (and up). Richard (AMICA appraiser) will see the car on Tues. 2006-02-07: Our claims adjustor has been assigned: Rhonda Terry, 1 800 226 1679 x32327 Richard (the appraiser) did see the car, and his top-of-head estimate is $3400. We took the car in to Marina Auto Body. 2006-02-10: USAA Insurance, claim adjustor assigned: Kari Ireland, 1 800 531 8222 x45267 USAA claim number: 10805480 Kari contacted me and took a statement over the phone. The data covered was substantially the same as what's recorded here. Kari used the magic words: USAA is accepting responsibility. Kari said that Rhonda told her that AMICA was going to waive our deductible. Jose contacted us asking us to expedite giving the statement. I called him back (and so did Kari) letting him know that it had happened. He doesn't have an estimate of damage yet; I told him our number of $3400. (He is a UCLA student, in Chicano Studies.) Update from Brent (Marina Auto Body): there is additional concealed damage; AMICA has approved the additional cost. (But Brent didn't say the exact value of the damages.)
